The Spectrum was of course the home of the Flyers and the 76ers—and just about everything else under the sun.  For instance, there was Bull Riding—which was only slightly more dangerous than playing The Broad Street Bullies.  Rumor has it some of the bulls came down with “The Philly Flu” after noticing Dave “The Hammer” Schultz in the stands.  But seriously, the Spectrum was the magical home of the Philadelphia Flyers, who became the toast of the Hockey World with their stunning, back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships in the mid-70s and their storied vanquishing of the Soviet Central Red Army team.  Those Flyers were the LCB line and “Duke” and “Hound” and “Otto” and “O” and “Big Bird” and “The Rifle” and “The Fog” and Kate Smith and later “The Legion of Doom.”  For the 76ers, the Spectrum trumpeted Dr. J, Maurice Cheeks, Bobby Jones—and Moses (Malone) leading the Sixers to the Promised Land in 1983 with the sweep over the Lakers.  And there were the fabulous concerts.  The Spectrum will forever live in the hearts and minds of every Philadelphian!!
